Already Running
04:10
|
|||
Like a record stuck in a groove
On the outside, me to you
Day after day all the same
Look at pictures on a wire
10,000 miles, no higher
A new life in the sun
And I’m already running
Down the road to ruin
And there’s no way back for me
These words we’ve spoken
Our lives are broken
And there’s no way back for me
One last look over your shoulder
In a world, so much colder
Jaded by what could’ve been
No leaves for November
The one thing I remember
The innocence I used to feel

Plan B

October’s over
And I’ve nothing more to say
I’m sorry
Sorry it turned out this way
Does he know you?
Will he make you smile tonight?
Now I’m lonely
Wish you’d come and stay a while
Silence cuts me
It strips away my skin and bone
Indifference only
When all I read is all I know
Could I hold you?
Could you make it go away?
This empty feeling
Its just a role for me to play
Glimpses of yesterday
Like tyre tracks in the snow
Faded images of yesterday
That’s all I’ll ever know
Don’t want to freefall
Lose myself along the way
It’s just the dawn light
Cutting open another day
October’s over
And I’ve nothing more to say
I’m sorry
We got lost along the way
Does he know you?
Will he make you scream tonight?
Now I’m lonely
Sat here waiting for my flight

Number 5 (with a bullet)

Summer sun to catch her smile
In the morning, In July
On her heels, she seems to float
On the water she seems to glide
Stepping out of the rain
On a Saturday
She was always the same
With her private school education
She still had her reservations I’m told
And I watch the situation
As my life seems to unfold
A passing moment
And words unspoken
Have opened the night to my eyes
Once parallel lines
Converge in time
How I wish the past was mine!
A rainbow for her to name
With her hair in the latest styles
Once in a million faces
I follow her steps single file

Washed Ashore Again
04:47
|
|||
I told myself it would pass
Like a dream fading in the morning light
Until there would be no more feelings like this
And the numbness would be gone forever
It was gone in the blink of an eye
Disappearing over the horizon
As the red sun cradled everything
And we basked in the afterglow
From the heavens
And just for an instant
As I clambered out of this
I felt the thrill of existence
It seem as though my dreams had been fulfilled
And I was more than just a listener
But now as before
I find myself washed up on a beach
Still hoping for some definitive
Peace inside, eluding me still
So far off in the distance
So I return to the world
Where all things pass under bridges
And over walls the rich men built
To protect their empires
And their riches
I push and try
to turn back the tide
Throw myself against the current
The waves break on all sides
Life’s driftwood in abundance
I told myself it would pass
like a dreaming fading in the morning light

Strange Symmetry
03:34
|
|||
Woke up this morning
And realized we were gone
In that moment
I knew where I belonged
I’m sorry if I’m irreverent
I’m sorry if I’m rude
But I’m no high wire performer
I don’t sing songs to your cue…….
And yesterday evening
She looked so sallow and vain
As they whispered together
I know I’m the last to claim
A position at the table
As the last supper is served
Your words are more than irony
Don’t you know you’ve got a lot of nerve……
She trades in vague imagery
I draw a line in the sand
I claim a strange symmetry
In your eyes you don’t understand
You don’t understand…….
On Saturday afternoon
With guitar and pen in hand
My thoughts on bleach white sheets
I try to make them understand
The impulse eats away at me
I hang from the proverbial tree
40 pieces of silver
Wonder who I’m gonna be…….

These Dreams
04:13
|
|||
Come to think of it you never knew me
You just saw what you wanted to see
Two pieces of a jigsaw, you and me
As everything fell apart at the seams
The light that illuminated our lives
Blown out by the cold north wind
The sounds that lifted our hearts
Drowned in the silence of our sins
Now facing these ghosts
I wonder whose faces they wear
I close my eyes
There’s no place to hide
They’re haunting these dreams I swear
Lasting impressions, lost on me now
I only see the bad in their smiles
Damnation or salvation
No solace do I find
My failings paraded by others
Like cheap trinkets that they wear
In this moment I’m feeling
The routine existence we share

All these days are blurring into one
And I'm still waiting here
All of last season stories are gone
And there's so little to cheer
Well hey my friend take a look at yourself
And see who you been cheatin’
While everyone I ever cared about
So busy retreatin’
Words are cheap, they fade away
And I’m standing way too near
Stainless steel appliance dreams
And white lines for their fear
Well hey my friend
Take a chance to change
And find out who you are
In time you’re sure to find
A place amongst the stars
Pills to make it alright
Lost in space and time
Stars die every night
Last one out, turn out the lights
Under the glow of city lights
We rush through tunnels home
Painted nails on coat hanger girls
With hearts made of stone
Well hey my friends
There’s nothing new
It’s all been done before
We love, we hate, we fake, we break
And hurt the ones we adore

Crescent City News

Crescent City, 6 am
Snow on the ground
I came ashore
Some time ago
Not knowing where I’m bound
The crunch beneath my feet
My footprints retreat
Way down the streets of this town
Waves of destruction
Are washing over me
Am I lost or am I found?
Crescent City, 2pm
Hanging off the bar
I past my best
Sometime ago
She looked better from afar
the silk between my teeth
my heartbeat repeats
way down the streets of this town
waves of destruction
are washing over me
Am I lost or am I found?
Crescent City, 10pm
and the smoke is in my eyes
I lost myself
at the roof of the world
Hemmed in on all sides
